This is not my normal read but I was intrigued after watching Richard Osman talk about it and learning how much of a record seller it was. Stephen Spielberg's bought the film rights, two sequels have already been commissioned - I'm telling you this so you don't think I'm exaggerating when I say it is a blooming marvellous read!
The crimes keep on coming, you keep on guessing, never knowing who did what or why and the laughs, oh the laughs they keep rolling on in.
Mr Osman's writing is subtle, intelligent, observational, current and very, very funny.
His characters are real! It had me wondering, is this how my Mum and Dad think? This is how I'm going to think and act when I'm that age.
Whilst solving murder's the characters interactions and comments on life are pure joy.
Joyce, Elizabeth, Ron and Ibrahim are amazing creations. Ibrahim the brains, Ron the mouth, Elizabeth the enigma and Joyce, who we all want to grow up to be, if I could be half the person Joyce is with her views on the world and enjoyment of life then I will be a very happy pensioner!
I raced my Mum to finish this book and am slightly proud of myself that I beat her.
Please, please, please if you are ever going to take any notice of me - read this book!
